And for the children: on 16 July 2018 the new play park was opened by Southwark Cabinet Member for culture, leisure, equalities and communities, Cllr Rebecca Lury. Councillors Victoria Mills and Renata Hamvas were also present together with the Friends of Peckham Rye Park. When I visited, it was packed with young people who were trying out the variety of amusements which were based on the Tumbling Bay Playground at the Olympic Park. The new water play zone encourages youngsters to use hand pumps to create streams which can then be dammed creating more exciting possibilities. There are sand pits with diggers and opportunities to build many other structures. The largest piece of equipment (pictured), is a climbing frame associated with tunnel chutes. The capital funding of £4m has been spent on the play park, car park, changing rooms and a large play room.
