{"id":25126,"date":"2023-07-20T22:16:45","date_gmt":"2023-07-20T21:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.peckhamsociety.org.uk\/?p=25126"},"modified":"2023-07-31T15:40:19","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T14:40:19","slug":"peckham-library-reopens-following-extensive-renovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.peckhamsociety.org.uk\/?p=25126","title":{"rendered":"Peckham Library reopens following extensive renovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peckham Library is now open again after a \u00a31.5 million refurbishment which was aimed at saving money by improving its energy efficiency.\u00a0 \u00a0Included in the works were green upgrades retrofitting the building with low-carbon technologies such as heat pumps.\u00a0 The library was closed for six months but fortuitously has re-opened in time for the summer school holidays.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/moderngov.southwark.gov.uk\/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=50000860\">Councillor Catherine Rose<\/a>, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Leisure and Parks, said: \u201cWe are very proud of our libraries in Southwark. Peckham is one of our biggest and busiest libraries and a critical element of the public realm and square. It not only offers traditional library services, but provides enriching events for children and adults, free Wi-Fi and rooms for hire. It lends itself into the life and times of Peckham.\u00a0 The transformed space now stands as a shining example of green building retro-fit practices, within the complexity of its original architecture.
